If you're trying to extend the shelf life of your groceries, popping them in the freezer might seem like a no-brainer. However, an organizing and cleaning guru has revealed that there are certain snacks you should think twice about freezing. The expert's tips were shared on TikTok by @neat.caroline, who has become quite the sensation for her savvy advice. In one of her posts, Caroline warned: "When lettuce freezes it goes from crisp to mushy." She also warned against freezing any sauce or gravy as "they can end up watery when they thaw out.".

Dairy products are another no-go for the freezer; Caroline pointed out that "Milk, sour cream, and yoghurt can separate and curdle when they defrost." Additionally, she said that some foods don't retain their taste after being frozen and cooked, explaining: "When cooked pasta or rice thaws out in the freezer it will taste over-cooked and lacking in flavour.". Coffee lovers take note as Caroline mentioned that "freezing your coffee can actually remove some of the flavour and aromas." Potatoes also made the list of freezer faux pas, with the potential to turn "soft and grainy" post-defrosting. And a final word of caution from the pro: "When canned or bottled beverages are frozen they can potentially explode.".

The comment section was buzzing with tips from fellow food enthusiasts. One user advised: "I freeze lots of dairy, it is better to portion it out. It may not be ideal but it is still useful in many dishes.". Another suggested: "Potatoes are okay if you're going to mash afterwards." And it seems plenty have had success with freezing the debated items, with one person saying: "I freeze most of these and have never had a problem with reheating them after part cooked potato cooks very well and cream is fine once you stir it.".
