In 'Babygirl', Nicole Kidman portrays Romy Mathis, a high-powered CEO who becomes entangled in a complex and fiery affair with her young intern, Samuel, played by Harris Dickinson. The film delves into themes of power dynamics, submission, and the personal challenges faced by women in corporate environments.
Costume designers Kurt and Bart meticulously crafted Romy's style to reflect her authoritative position and her personal transformation. The duo reveal to Daily Mail how their sartorial choices help visually communicate the multi-faceted character's personality and emotional state.
'We were going for a chic, ultra-feminine, and carefully presented aesthetic, so that we could have fun letting it all unravel onscreen,' said Bart. 'To have a character like Nicole’s Romy, who carefully dresses as these archetypal roles of wife, mother and high-powered CEO, start to lose control and choose to follow her deeper desire was a great arc to explore, added Kurt.
'As designers, it was very fun to support that story with her clothes.'. Like all creatives, Kurt and Bart took inspiration from other artists' work.
