How 'bland babies' took over social media: Instagram mums are refusing to let their children play with colourful toys and won't even dress them in bright clothes

Anyone who spends time on Instagram will notice that beige is a popular colour among influencers, including Kim Kardashian and Molly Mae. Many stars ditch bright tones for mocha and sand, in what's been dubbed the 'sad beige aesthetic'. But children have long been exempt from the trend, with kids' fashion typically venturing towards primary colours and bright items.
Mina Tran, a doctor and mother-of-three from Texas, told The Guardian: 'You won't see my kids in primary or secondary colours unless it's pyjamas'. The same rule applies to her children's toys, with Mina adding: 'We have one play area, and that play area is also the living space. I don't want to stare at something hot pink and neon green every day,' she said.
Tran isn't alone, and though she might be one of the more obsessive fans of the colour, there are hordes of others implementing beige into their everyday lives. It's of little surprise then that Pantone made their shade 'Mocha Mousse' the colour of 2025, described by the company as 'a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth extends further into our desire for comfort'.
For fashion expert Lisa Talbot, the trend of dismissing colour arose because the brown translates well on camera - a win for the influencers making a living off picture perfect social media accounts, but there's an additional psychological reasoning. Colour is out and beige is in, according to the latest social media trend. Pictured: We are Tala sharing the brand's best beige looks.
