The Princess of Wales's passion for taking pictures has led her to capture some of the most touching portraits of royals in recent decades. Now, Kate Middleton, 43, appears to be passing the reigns down to her children, as Prince Louis turned royal photographer this afternoon - releasing an image of his mother in Windsor to mark World Cancer Day tomorrow. A personal message from Kate accompanied the post, reading: 'Don't forget to nurture all that which lies beyond the disease. C #WorldCancerDay'.
Six-year-old Louis captured his mother smiling joyfully, with her arms outstretched during a walk in the woods over the winter period. Photography has long been a passion for the mother-of-three. Kate's skill behind the camera has seen praise from professionals - and her family is her biggest muse. Her love of the craft is so potent that in 2021, the then-Duchess of Cambridge revealed that her children sometimes asked her to 'please stop taking photographs' of them, according to The Independent.
Today, the roles appeared to reverse, with Louis showing his skill behind the camera with the beautifully captured image of his mother. In 2019, Kate announced her position as the new patron of the Royal Photographic Society. The Princess of Wales has passed down her camera skills to her youngest child, who took a new portrait (pictured) of his mother, which was released today to mark World Cancer Day on Tuesday.
The keen amateur photographer succeeded the late Queen as the figurehead of the body, which was officially supported by the late monarch for 67 years. On the day of the announcement, Kate joined young people from Action for Children - which supports disadvantaged youngsters from across the UK in sessions run with Royal Photographic Society honorary fellows Jillian Edelstein and Harry Borden. During the workshops, the enthusiastic students learned about various elements of photography, such as portraits, light, and colour.
Alongside developing new skills, the workshop intended to highlight how photography provides a universal language for young people to express themselves and release their thoughts and feelings. It is perhaps unsurprising then that Kate encouraged her youngest son to spend time behind the camera following a tumultuous year for the family. Elsewhere, Kate has received praise for her photographic portraits of her children and she has documented milestones in their lives, such as birthdays and first days at nursery.
Louis masterfully captured his mother in a forest in Windsor (seen together attending the Christmas Day morning church service at St Mary Magdalene Church). Pictured: Kate holds a camera as she takes part in a a photography workshop with the charity 'Action for Children' in Kingston, southwest London in June, 2019. With the Royal Family moving towards a more relatable direction, it's no surprise they've ditched the formal dress for something more low-key.
And Kate and her children's photography talents only add to this new image of the monarchy. The Prince and Princess of Wales' eldest son is more than used to posing for his mother, with snaps of the heir-to-the-throne appearing regularly - and marking milestones such as his first day at nursery in Norfolk, and supporting the England squad in a team shirt in 2019. On his seventh birthday, two photographs were released, taken in July 2020 during lockdown - at their then Norfolk home, Anmer Hall.
His eighth birthday also saw him photographed at Amner Hall and showed the future king perched on the bonnet of a Land Rover Defender. Prince George turned nine in 2022, and his mother was behind the camera once more. The young royal posed in a polo-style top with a sandy shoreline and water behind him in his birthday snap. The middle child of Kate and William has also been an adorable subject for her mother's favourite hobby. An early photo of Princess Charlotte, who turns ten in May, sees her being cradled by her older brother George.
The mother-of-three has revealed her photography skills in a series of portraits in recent years (seen in Canada in 2011). Little lion! Prince George captured by Kate in an England football shirt to mark his sixth birthday in 2019. Other highlights include a second birthday photo of her wearing a snuggly lemon cardigan, and holding the family dog for a portrait to mark her seventh birthday. The youngest of the Wales siblings, little Prince Louis, who turns seven in April, has been seen in a variety of photos since he was born in 2018; first pictures snapped by Kate show him as a red-cheeked bouncing baby, with one photo showing him in the arms of his big sister Princess Charlotte.
More recently, Prince Louis has been photographed cycling to nursery on his bicycle - and in group family photos with dad Prince William. Kate's father-in-law, the King, and Queen Camilla have also featured in some of the photographs the Princess of Wales has chosen to make public over the years. In 2018, Kate captured an image to mark both Father's day and the 38th birthday of the then Duke of Cambridge.
