It’s no secret that the Kardashians are reality TV royalty. The show’s first iteration, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, made its on-air debut in 2007 and ran for 20 seasons until its grand conclusion in 2021. Swiftly thereafter, the Kar-Jenners revamped their looks, their storylines and most importantly - their viewing platform. And with that, came a massive nine-figure salary. Speaking about their salaries back in 2022, when their new series, The Kardashians, first debuted on Hulu (the online streaming service owned by the Walt Disney company) – Khloé Kardashian simply said: “We’re all equals.”.
Variety reported that insiders had revealed the reality TV legends were being paid a handsome nine figure salary for their show that debuted on April 14 that year. Kris Jenner– also known as a momager extraordinaire– had talked about the many options their family had to choose from, when it came to deciding which network to call their new home. Refusing to share too much, Kris cheekily said: “I’m not one to kiss and tell.”.
When Keeping Up With the Kardashians–starring Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner and Kris Jenner–first premiered on E! In 2007, it had a minimal budget and the production cost was much lower. Almost two decades and nine spin offs later, the Kardashian-Jenner reality is very different. When the series was renewed in 2020, which also happened to be the family’s last deal with E!, the family was casually raking in just under $100 million.
The last episode in their long-standing stint with E! was filmed in January 2021, after which the family promptly took a break from documenting their lives for the cameras (and negotiated their next multi-million dollar deal). After 20 record-breaking, headline-producing seasons, Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ final episode aired on E! in June 2021. Momager Kris swiftly got to work and weighed the family’s options at other venues, finally landing on Disney, with Hulu ultimately emerging as the home for their new show.
Kris famously said of the deal she cracked: "Money always matters. I think that anybody would be foolish to say that money doesn’t matter anymore.”. Speaking of the move and the monies, middle-sister Khloé said: “It definitely played a factor because we give so much of our personal lives up for entertainment. “We always have our private family conversations, and we’re pretty brutal, me and my sisters, with what we will settle for or not settle for.
“But not all money is good money. It has to be a good fit, and Hulu was just the perfect fit for us. It can’t just be for monetary gain. That doesn’t seem to work for us.”. The Good American co-founder told Variety that the Kardashian-Jenner clan was ready to make their move over to a streaming platform, after being at a cable network for 15 years. Khloé shared: “It sounds so old fashioned, but we are people who applaud ourselves in so many other facets of our life that we are ahead of the time. We wanted to be with someone that’s tech forward, so we’re with the times. For us to be still on cable was just not so on brand for us.
“My mom deals with all the negotiating, and we let her do that because it is uncomfortable. She fights like a pit bull. She loves to do it and we let her do it.”. However the reported nine-figure deal only accounts for a fraction of the family’s net worth – with each member of the clan running successful businesses across clothing, fragrance, beauty, and even alcohol. Walt Disney Television’s chairperson, Dana Walden, had also confirmed that the Kardashians came at a cost – and it wasn’t cheap. Dana revealed: “We stepped up to a great deal that they very much deserve.
“Who would you want more for your unscripted slate than the Kardashians?. “They perfectly symbolize our strategy, which is taking big shots, but the right shots, and betting on incredible talent and best-in-class opportunities in each genre.”. In a departure from their usual style, The Kardashians saw the internet’s First Family in more of a documentary-style set up – and it seemed to go down splendidly with the viewers. Now on its sixth season, The Kardashians is all set to return to our screens on February 6 on Hulu and Disney+.
