Donald Trump’s second presidential term is set to begin when he is inaugurated on January 20 and officially takes over from Joe Biden. The Republican will be sworn in before supporters and former presidents in the Washington DC ceremony on Monday before military processions and meetings.
Mr Trump will use the inauguration to address Americans for the first time as 47th president of the United States, having previously held office from 2017 to 2021. His initial speech from the White House in 2017 ushered in the “America first” approach that defined his first four years at the helm.
Here is how the inauguration day will pan out and how you can watch. Inauguration day is on Monday, January 20. Until that point, Joe Biden is still the president – despite Mr Trump having defeated rival Kamala Harris in the US election back in November.
Mr Biden used what will likely be his final address to warn that the US faces a threat from oligarchs gaining influence. The inauguration ceremony will be held at midday local time, which is 5pm in Britain. The speeches and performances will be followed by Mr Trump withdrawing to sign documents and pose for photos. After this, he will have lunch with leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives as well as invited guests.
