A HUGE coffee chain with more than 1,300 UK branches is closing one of its high street shops in the New Year. Starbucks is pulling down the shutters on its coffee house on Dumfries High Street. The store will close for the final time on Sunday, January 12.
A Starbucks spokesperson said: "We regularly review our portfolio to ensure our stores are relevant for our customers. "Our store in Dumfries, High Street will close on January 12, and we are in the process of working with our partners to offer them positions at nearby stores.
"We thank our customers for their loyalty over the years and invite them to find their nearest store on Annan Road, Dumfries, and to see others on the Starbucks Store Locator.". Fans were left surprised at the sudden move with one punter saying its "another good shop gone.".
Another wrote: "aw blimey! Gonna be even more of a ghost town now!". A third added: "I found out about it a couple of weeks ago, it's closing in January and I'm praying that all staff find new jobs ASAP because they are amazing hard workers.". It's not the first Starbucks store to close in recent months.
In April, Starbucks announced the closure of one of its Reading cafes, leaving some shoppers "shocked". Back in March, locals were saddened to hear their Dalton Park store, in Murton, Country Durham, would be closing down in hours. One said: "Wish all the lovely staff good luck. They were always very friendly and made the best coffee around.
