I'm charging my family and friends £75 for Christmas dinner - there will be no turkey and my wife thinks I'm mad, but I'm not worried about being labelled a Scrooge

For many, the festive period is usually a time of giving. But with a cost-of-living crisis, one Scrooge-like businessman has decided that he will charge family and friends £75 to attend his Christmas dinner. Richard Carter, owner of card reader company Lopay, says he is tired of always footing the bill and being the one left buying others rounds during seasonal catchups.
So, in what he described as a 'cheerful change' to MailOnline, the businessman will be asking his 12 expected Christmas Day guests to pay for their own food and drink. Not too worried about some last-minute change of plans from his dinner party attendees, Richard hopes they will all manage to see 'humorous side' of his 'unique' plan.
The main event of any Christmas Day feast is always the cut of meat on offer, but the entrepreneur is also making the controversial choice to omit the roast turkey. Instead, guests will be treated to a prime rib of beef, with the rest of the planned menu leaving Richard wondering if he's actually charging too little.
'I've not worked out how much exactly the dinner will set me back but when you factor in the cost of a prime rib of beef and all the wine and alcohol that will be consumed, maybe £75 is a little light after all,' Richard quipped. Also included in the businessman's banquet will be iberico ham for starters, with all the customary trimmings coming alongside the rib of beef.
