'I'm one of PDC's top stars – my career turned around when my mum gave me kick up backside' Mike De Decker needed a kick up the backside from his mum to spark life into his darts career.
I thought I would go and get a degree, go and get a normal job, but the people around me told me I am such a big talent, if I put in the work I will be a big name in darts.
De Decker admits that he was close to giving up darts when he lost his Pro Tour card at the end of 2017, following a season of disappointing results.
His run to the final included victories over Gary Anderson, Dimitri van den Bergh and Joe Cullen, before completing the biggest win of his life over the world champion.
“Last year I met some friends and from them, I accepted that I needed to practice more, so that is what is going on and why I am a different player on stage and a different player on tour.”.
