First, some good news for spectators or viewers who may struggle to tell the Currys apart. When they line up together for England for the first time in Dublin on Saturday, there should be some helpful, sartorial clues to look out for. Sale flankers Ben and Tom will be the first twin brothers to represent the national team in tandem, in the Six Nations opener against Ireland. It will be a memorable day for the 6ft 1in 26-year-olds, their proud family and their club.
But it could also turn out to be a confusing day for those watching and even the officials. So, as a public-service exercise, the father of the siblings has offered Mail Sport a handy guide to telling them apart. ‘If it helps, Ben will probably be in black boots,’ said David Curry – head teacher at Bishop Heber High school in Cheshire. ‘And Tom has been wearing a head guard in the last five or six games, but he’s not trained in one all week, so I don’t know if he just does that with Sale.’.
Identification has been an issue since the twins burst on to the scene. ‘When they played their first senior game for Sale, one of them got a niggle and the coach took the wrong one off,’ added David. ‘Ben came off the pitch, perplexed, and Tom was left on injured!.
