There’s something about January that brings with it an urge to have an overhaul. As you pack away the Christmas decorations and we find ourselves with a few more daylight hours to get jobs done, many homeowners may feel inspired to give their space a refresh.
Whether it’s a full blown makeover, or switching out some soft furnishings, the New Year is the ideal opportunity to spruce up your interiors to keep on top of the latest trends. But, what are they set to be this year?. Last year saw aesthetics like Western Gothic dominate, while the colour Mulberry was a top choice when it came to adding colour to the home. To uncover the top trends for 2025, we caught up with interiors expert Sophie Newlands, founder of Shag Interior, who shared her predictions for the hottest home design movements of the next 12 months.

Sophie, from Staffordshire, developed a knack for decorating and designing interiors after moving house nine times in 10 years - even when renting. When she moved into her current home three years ago, she began to document the development of the interior design on her Instagram.
She told The Mirror: “The progression from DIY projects to working for actual clients felt like a natural next step as I started to gain a deeper understanding of design and took courses to help me to learn the necessary skills to launch and run a service-based business.
