ITV Vera's DI Joe Ashworth's future revealed as fans beg for spin-off after final ever episode DI Joe Ashworth's future has been revealed - as Vera ended for the final time tonight.
Joe - played by David Leon - worked on Vera's team at the very start of the ITV drama, before he left a few years in, with Kenny Doughty replacing him as DS Aiden Healy for several years.
However, when Aiden headed off to Australia, Joe returned to initially check on the team as part of a review into their processes, which left Vera fuming - convinced she was being undermined by her former colleague.
"You know what, this case has really made me think, and I did see a lot of myself in young Chloe, it made me think of a lot of things, like how good my team is.
However, Vera resigned and left a note for Joe to explain that she wanted him to take over the unit.
