Chelsea’s Jadon Sancho may not feel the ‘love’ that Enzo Maresca believes he needs should Noni Madueke continue to start and Alejandro Garnacho be recruited. Having fallen out of favour at Manchester United, Sancho arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer with a point to prove - and it looked to all the world that he’d done just that after his first few appearances in blue.
The winger was awarded player of the match as he came off the bench to debut against Bournemouth in September. However, he hasn't been able to maintain that form. Fellow wide man Madueke, dubbed one of Chelsea’s ‘best players’ by boss Maresca, is often preferred, and as such competition for places could be about to heat up.
Garnacho, one of the Red Devils’ standout forwards, has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in January after it was announced his club would reportedly listen to offers for all first-team players to fundraise and comply with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules. If his ex-team-mate heads to London, Sancho’s position in the Blues’ squad could become under more threat.
“Jadon helped us a lot,” Maresca stated when asked about Sancho after his debut against the Cherries. “What he did tonight is exactly what we expected from him. "I know Jadon very well because I watched him many times in the past, and I know what he can give us. Then also, Christo [Nkunku] was excellent, not only because he scored but because he fought without the ball. Jadon was exactly the same.
