Jake Paul has seemingly issued a brutal dig at Canelo Alvarez after it was confirmed that the Mexican's potential showdown with Terence Crawford has now been cancelled. Both Alvarez and Crawford were tipped to meet in September in a super-middleweight clash in Las Vegas. However, The Ring magazine recently announced that the dust-up has been scrapped. "A source has advised The Ring that the anticipated super middleweight showdown between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence Crawford is now canceled," the report began.
"Alvarez, 34, and Crawford, 37, were expected to meet on a September date at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Crawford, who holds the WBA's junior middleweight title, was planning to move up in weight by two divisions to challenge Canelo at the full super middleweight limit of 168-pounds.". Taking to X - formerly known as Twitter - Paul uploaded two cryptic messages - which are seemingly digs at 'Saul.' "A source has advised me that my fight is now….whatever I want it to be. Because I’m my source," the first post read, while the second post reads: "A-Side in every fight I’ve been in and that’s not changing for this one.".
The American's second post alludes to the fact that he is set to be the 'A-side' in his next outing, which is potentially set to take place later this summer. Taking to X, the 28-year-old recently revealed the exact date and location ahead of his next bout. He wrote: “It’s time. Sat July 5 New York, New York.”. His post came just hours after sensational reports claimed he and Alvarez had agreed to face each other in the ring. Boxing journalist Julius Julianis wrote Monday that the two boxing stars agreed to go head-to-head in May for a Cinco de Mayo event. Julianis revealed the proposed Paul vs. Alvarez fight will be co-promoted by Most Valuable Promotions, Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), and Canelo Promotions.
Since the cancellation of Alvarez vs Crawford, many fans have been quick to blame Paul, with on user writing: "Please don't tell me Canelo is actually fighting Jake Paul." Another wrote: "If Canelo vs Crawford is off to cater for a Jake Paul fight Vs Canelo, I swear to god I’ll never watch boxing again." A third commented: "“If it’s because Jake Paul is fighting Canelo we riot!!” Another commented: "Please don't let me read next Canelo vs Jake Paul is actually on.".
A fifth posted: "Oh my f****** god Canelo is gonna fight Jake Paul," while another commented: "Please don’t tell me Canelo is going to fight Jake Paul?" Another fan wrote: "Boxing dead. Canelo probably finna fight Jake Paul.". Recently, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn said Canelo would be open to fighting Paul, providing the price is right. In an interview with Matchroom Boxing, he said: "Whenever I've spoken to Saul (Canelo) about Jake Paul, he's always gone 'pay me the money and I'll fight him.' Saul is so transparent, that's why I love dealing with Canelo. Zero bulls***... give him the money and he'll fight. That's it!.
"So he looks at Jake Paul and goes 'yeah you want to pay me the money, I'll fight him.' I don't like a lot of things that Jake Paul has done, if he fights Canelo Alvarez, and obviously, the main reason why he's doing it is for a lot of money... I'll watch it! I would love to watch it, and by the way, respect. Because if you (Paul) go in there, you're fighting a pound-for-pound great. I don't know what they're going to do about weight, Jake's a big lump. Maybe Canelo is going to have to give up 10/ 15lbs, it's not going to matter, but I would watch it.".
