Jamie Carragher's prediction that Trent Alexander-Arnold would impress against Manchester United was quickly proved wrong on Sunday afternoon. Alexander-Arnold has produced a strong first half of the season to help Liverpool climb to the top of the Premier League table. The England international was discussed for other reasons in the lead-up to Sunday's game, though, with Real Madrid's transfer interest refusing to go away.

Arne Slot has had no issue with picking the full-back, though the return from injury of Conor Bradley might have put more of a spotlight on Alexander-Arnold. United appeared to target him, too, with Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes doubling up to good effect down the visitors' left.

It was the opposite of Carragher's pre-match prediction, where he anticipated plenty of joy for Liverpool's right-back in an attacking sense. "The system that Manchester United play, Trent Alexander-Arnold should have a field day in this set-up, plenty of space," the Sky Sports pundit said.

"I wouldn't say there's a point to prove but there's definitely been a frustration in the last week from Liverpool supporters that this Real Madrid story came out and Liverpool have got a huge game against United and in such a great position to win a Premier League title - if today goes well," Carragher continued. "He'll be determined to put in a performance and show the supporters he's fully 100 percent a Liverpool player.".

It became clear early on that he wouldn't have it all his own way, though. Dalot got in behind Alexander-Arnold to set up United's first big chance of the game, though Amad was unable to convert, and Rasmus Hojlund got the wrong side of the right-back before firing straight at Alisson.
