Jamie Oliver has dished out his "best" apple crumble recipe that's so easy and quick, it's a total game-changer for when you've got company. The celebrity chef's straightforward and timeless version of the much-loved pudding, featured on his official website, whips up in a mere 50 minutes and is perfect for serving up to eight people. The chef said: "The humblest crumble ever, I'm mixing this one up with eating apples as well as the classic Bramley.
"So homely, so simple and so delicious you're going to love it.". For the grand finale, drown it in luscious warm custard or just crown it with a dollop of vanilla ice cream - though it's equally divine with a bit of Greek-style yoghurt, reports the Express. 1.5kg mixed apples. 150g golden caster sugar. One lemon. 50g unsalted butter (cold). 100g plain flour. Heat your oven to 200C (400F), or gas mark 6. Peel, core, and slice the apples into quarters, then chop them into chunky 3cm pieces.
Pop them into a saucepan on medium flame, sprinkle in 100g of sugar and some thin strips of lemon zest. Put on a lid and let it simmer for about five minutes, or until the apples are tender. Take it off the heat and let it cool a touch. As the apples take a breather, cube the butter and toss it into a big mixing bowl with the flour. Get your hands in there and rub the butter into the flour until it looks like chunky breadcrumbs. Then, mix in the leftover sugar to give your crumble topping a bit of crunch.
Shift the softened apples into a 25cm by 30cm baking dish, then scatter the crumble mixture uniformly over the top. Pop the dish in the oven and bake for a duration of 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crumble topping has turned golden brown and the filling is bubbling. Dish up with a hefty serving of custard or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an added lavish delight.
