SEVERAL drill rappers who committed crimes have been showcased on the BBC. Rapper Loski, real name Jyrelle O’Connor, 25, had track Ashes played on 1Xtra days after his release from jail for carrying a loaded gun. O’Conner denied the charges and claimed that he had been forced to hold the gun after a drug dealer had made threats against his and his mother’s lives.

His defence was unanimously rejected by the jury at Croydon crown court. The station previously featured live performances from Loski and wrote in a 2020 website post how the star had been “bigged up by Stormzy and shouted out by Drake”. They added: “Already one of the faces of the UK drill scene, he’s been busy regularly putting out new tracks and he doesn’t look like stopping any time soon so we’re made up that we’ve managed to get him to stop by 1Xtra Live.”.

The BBC aired documentary Defending Digga D following the London rapper, 24, after his release from a 15-month stint for violent disorder. Digga D, real name Rhys Herbert, has been back behind bars multiple times and admitted smuggling and supplying cannabis last year.

He will be sentenced on January 31, but has previously claimed his drug dealing was only sporadic. Another 1Xtra act Headie One — Irving Adjei, 30 — boasted of street violence on the station in 2018. He had previous convictions for dealing crack and heroin, and in 2020 was caged for carrying a knife.
