Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is set to stay at the Emirates until the end of the season - but has signed a pre-contractual deal with Brazilian side Flamengo ahead of a summer move. Jorginho has been an invaluable member of Arsenal's squad, adding experience and quality after making 72 appearances for the Gunners since his £12million switch from London rivals Chelsea in 2022. The 33-year-old has had to settle for minutes in the cup competitions this season, with Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice and Thomas Partey currently first choice midfielders under Mikel Arteta.

Jorginho has still proved to be hugely important to Arsenal's squad with huge leadership in the dressing room and he scored in a 2-1 win over Girona in the Champions League last week. But with the Italy international approaching the twilight years of his career, Jorginho is now looking at his next chapter and it appears Flamengo will be his next club. There were fears that Arsenal could lose Jorginho this month after news of the Brazilian side's interest, but Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has now confirmed he will stay in north London until the summer.

He also revealed that Jorginho had signed a pre-contract agreement with the South American club and that he would join them at the end of the season - just in time to feature in the new-look Club World Cup in the US this summer. It comes after Kieran Tierney also agreed a pre-contract deal with Celtic. There was a chance the Scottish left-back could leave Arsenal this month, but ended up staying until the summer.

In recent days, reports have clamed Flamengo attempted to persuade Arsenal to release Jorginho now - but boss Mikel Arteta dug his heels in because he wants Jorginho to help the club with their Premier League title bid. After signing a contract extension last summer, Arteta called him "one of the best" and hailed his "hunger" for success that rubbed off on the whole team. "He’s someone who makes everybody better - that’s his main quality. He’s still hungry, he wants to win, he wants to win with us, he's happy here and his family is happy here, so for us it was a really easy decision.

"He is a very important player for all the coaches because his game understanding and the way he communicates and coaches people is excellent. When he needs to be at it and serious and drive people with him he does it, and when it needs fun and a relaxing atmosphere, he is one of the best. It's a good combination.".
