Julian Nagelsmann has extended his contract as Germany's head coach, ending Jurgen Klopp's hopes of taking charge his national team until at least 2028. Klopp is currently the global head of soccer for Red Bull, having left Liverpool at the end of last season after nine years in charge at Anfield. He has consistently made it clear that he does not want to take another job at club level.

But the Germany head coach role is widely thought to be his dream job. Nagelsmann though has now committed his future to Die Mannschaft, signing a contract to keep him in charge through to Euro 2028. The 37-year-old only signed his last deal in Apil 2024, which kept him in charge until the 2026 World Cup. He was initially appointed on a short-team deal to replace Hansi Flick in September 2023.

Having taken over with Germany's national team at its lowest ebb for some time, he led the side to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024. He is credited with restoring national pride in the team, with the defeat to Spain in the final eight being Germany's only loss of 2024.

He has now been rewarded with a new deal ahead of the National League quarter-final against Italy in March. And Nagelsmann is delighted to have signed his new deal. He said: "When I took the Germany job in September 2023, I could not have imagined I would stay beyond the European Championships at home. Our big aim was to have a successful tournament together.
