Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has remained coy over a possible move for Manchester United star Joshua Zirkzee. The Serie A giants are said to have offered an escape route from Old Trafford for the struggling striker. Juve are interested in signing the Dutchman on loan for the remainder of the season, where he will be able to to link up with his former Bologna coach Thiago Motta.
Zirkzee has endured a difficult season with United since signing in a £36million deal in the summer. The 23-year-old scored on his Premier League debut but has scored just three more times and was hauled off after just 33 minutes and left tearful in defeat to Newcastle last time out.
Giuntoli did not rule out a deal being made for the Netherlands international this month but offered little on the prospect. The Italian did reveal that the Old Lady will look to improve their defence. "Zirkzee? It's not appropriate to mention names, but we are keeping an eye on any interesting opportunities, and we will move to strengthen the defence," Giuntoli said, per Football Italia.
If Juve do make their move, United may insist that any agreement would include an obligation to buy Zirkzee. Napoli are also set to rival Juventus for his signature. Despite his difficult time with the 13-times Premier League champions, Zirkzee is said to committed to United. The ex-Bayern Munich forward has 'no desire to leave' and wants to aid the Red Devils' recovery.
