An heroic father faced with his family's home burning down in front of him, as wildfires rip through huge areas of Los Angeles, has been seen grabbing his own garden hose to try and hold back the flames. Will Adams, a long-time resident of Palisades, the city's coastal neighbourhood, can be seen trying in vain to save what he can, before the flames are seen licking at his property. In one image he drags his garden hose round to attack the flames, but soon sees he is fighting a losing battle. The fast-moving wildfire has been tearing through the inland foothills of LA's northeast close to many celebrity luxury mansions and villas.

Mr Adams spoke to reporters at his property yesterday and said he knew had to act as the fire was suddenly in his own neighbourhood and his first thoughts were of his school-age children. He said he immediately went to pick his two kids up from St Matthews Parish School when he heard the fire was nearby.

As his wife tried to evacuate he said embers flew into her car. Mr Adam said: “She vacated her car and left it running. She and many other residents walked down toward the ocean until it was safe. It is crazy, it’s everywhere, in all the nooks and crannies of the Palisades. One home’s safe, the other one’s up in flames.".

Mr Adams added that he had never witnessed anything like this in the 56 years he’s lived there. He said he watched as the sky turned brown and then black as homes started burning. He could hear loud popping and bangs “like small explosions,” which he said he believes were the transformers exploding.
