Leicester fans turn on Ruud van Nistelrooy after just 10 games with brutal chant

Ruud van Nistelrooy received a Ruud awakening as the Cottagers sparked uproar at the King Power Stadium. The Dutchman was hit with chants of ‘You don’t know what you’re doing’ as the hosts slipped to their seventh straight Premier League defeat. Second-half strikes from Emile Smith Rowe and Adama Traore were greeted with groans from home supporters.
But that told only half the story as the former Manchester United and Real Madrid marksman found himself fixed in the sights of disgruntled punters. After Smith Rowe had broken the deadlock three minutes after the interval, van Nistelrooy looked to his substitutes.
He chose to take off Bilal El Khannouss - the young Morocco international had been arguably Leicester’s best player - and that tipped the stadium over the edge. There were also calls for the board to be sacked and Jon Rudkin - the club’s director of football - was also given another verbal hosing.
Van Nistelrooy has only been in charge for nine matches in the Premier League and three away fixtures now beckon against Tottenham, Everton and Man United in the FA Cup. The prospects for a revival don’t appear good. Against a team as assured as Marco Silva’s side these days, the first goal was always going to be important. And in his heart of hearts, Leicester’s boss couldn’t say it wasn’t coming. After a cagey opening half-hour, the Cottagers looked lively and turned the screw ten minutes before the break.
Victor Kristiansen had a go with a right-foot effort that whistled wide following a mazy run. But then Silva’s men stepped on the gas. Calvin Bassey fired wide. Alex Iwobi hit the crossbar with a cross-cum-shot and only a last-ditch block by Wout Faes stopped the same player from letting fly with the goal at his mercy.
