Lily Allen admits she was "mean before getting sober" following her split from David Harbour. The pair broke up after the singer discovered the Stranger Things actor was using the celeb-dating app Raya in December. The singer has now checked into a US trauma clinic. In a pre-recorded interview, she delves into her wild experiences partying as a youth and how she discovered sobriety.

On Sunday, it was revealed the mental health of the Not Fair singer had collapsed after returning to her and Harbour's shared home in New York. Lily was said to feel 'triggered' within her Brooklyn home by the potential of her ex being near her. A source told the Daily Mail that the return home was "painful" and that "David used to be her saviour and now he's a trigger for her". Lily had "settled her kids back in, took them to school and then flew herself straight to rehab".

Before entering the clinic, Lily told Grazia: 'I'm just a completely different person. When I was drinking and taking drugs, I could be quite mean ... I think when I drank and when I took drugs, it was like, 'Now it's your turn. I'm going to turn it around on everyone else.'".

Lily has admitted that "self-medicating" was always "on the cards" as addiction "runs deep" in her family - that addiction was a case of 'when' and not 'if', linking her struggles to her famous father, Keith Allen's, trouble with drug abuse. The centre Lily is currently in has a no-phone policy and will encourage the heartbroken star to eat healthily and take walks in an effort to heal. Another source said: "Everyone thinks David is the steady one and Lily is the crazy head-case. But the reality is that Lily was calmer and more grounded than she's ever been – until she discovered that her marriage was unexpectedly over. She is taking the responsible course of action with a trip to a retreat to get her head straight.".
