Luca Brecel stunned the Alexandra Palace crowd with an audacious positional potting of a brown against Chris Wakelin at the Masters. The 2023 world champion Belgian Bullet was at his brilliant but sometimes fleeting best on Wednesday evening when facing up against World No. 15-ranked Wakelin.

He stormed into the competitive first frame, and, as the colours were locked on - just four left remaining - and both players within serious contention for the opener, Brecel pulled off the audacious make. With the brown pinned against the baulk and the blue likely needing to be sunk into a top pocket, the 29-year-old forcefully fired in his desired target and found a beautiful position to essentially wrap up the frame.

Those in the audience immediately began their applause as the brown was stunningly sunk, and as the cue ball lined up perfectly next to the blue, commentator and snooker icon Ken Doherty uttered: “Wow, you won’t see many better shots than that this week.”.

Fans on social media mirrored Doherty's disbelief, as one commented: "One of the best shots I've ever seen. Take a bow Luca Brecel." While another added: "Anyone that’s played high-level snooker knows that’s a ridiculous shot. Beautiful.". However, his opponent Wakelin wouldn’t be felled with just one shot and bounced back immediately to claim the second frame. Brecel then opened up a 3-1 lead before this was again halved.
