Christian Kist landing a 9-darter at the World Darts Championship on Wednesday night saw one lucky fan win £60,000 at Alexandra Palace. The Dutchman hit the perfect leg in his first round clash with Madars Razma in north London, although he went on to lose the match 3-1.
It is a profitable night for Kist despite the loss as tournament sponsors Paddy Power are handing him £60,000 for the 9-darter. Paddy Power are also donating £60,000 to Prostate Cancer UK thanks to the perfect leg and the same amount to a random fan who watched the 9-darter in the crowd.
Kris from Sutton was that lucky supporter and he could hardly believe that his night at the arrows resulted in the windfall. ‘Speechless to be honest, just obviously didn’t expect it to happen to me, a free competition,’ he told the PDC. ‘Speechless, shaking still, can’t believe it.
‘Massive darts fan. I came probably 10 years ago with my brother and granddad who I’m with tonight, but I haven’t been back since. ‘This was a birthday present, so this has made it even better. My granddad [got me the tickets], this makes it even sweeter!’.
Asked what the money means to him, he added: ‘Me and my partner have moved into a flat this year, so maybe stick some on the mortgage, a nice holiday, I don’t know. It’s a lot of money, it’s quite a lot to think about!’. He added to SportsBoom: ‘I turned around to my granddad. I was like, seriously? Is this me? I was like, oh my God, this is mental. I kept going like, this can’t be real, this can’t be real. That’s not me. And then everyone started looking at me. It took a while to set in.’.
