Darts legend Dennis Priestley says Luke Littler has “zero chance” of equalling Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor’s record 16 world titles after becoming the youngest player to win the PDC World Darts Championship aged 17. Littler continued his incredible rise up the sport by defeating three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final at Ally Pally on Friday night, with many predicting the teenager to dominate the sport in the years to come.

Dennis the Menace, who won the first version of the PDC world title in 1994, admits Littler’s potential is “frightening" - but insisted he would never level the incredible record set by the legendary Taylor. Speaking to The Sports Daily, Priestley - now 74 - said: “I do think what Luke has achieved is up there as one of the greatest sporting achievements ever. But I'd give him zero chance of replicating the success Phil Taylor had in darts. No chance whatsoever.

Having said that, it's frightening how good this kid could be. The distractions now will be enormous and he must not forget what's got him where he is. He's got a long way to go and only time will tell what legacy he'll eventually leave.". Despite Littler having a long way to go, that hasn't stopped the youngster dreaming of breaking Taylor's record after his magnificent night at Alexandra Palace.

The overjoyed teen said he was blown away by comparisons to footballers who excelled at a young age before becoming superstarrs like Cristiano Ronaldo and added: "Unbelievable. Comparing me to the likes of Ronaldo and Mbappe - I think Project Littler's been going on for the last year now and I hope it continues.
