Sergio Aguero is undergoing a boot camp to become a racing driver. Manchester City's all-time top goalscorer is one of 11 big-name personalities taking part in Formula E's Evo Sessions, a new initiative to get celebrity figures behind the wheel of one of the world's most powerful racing cars. David Beckham's son Brooklyn and actor Lucien Laviscount are also among the first names announced as joining the scheme.
Aguero will be paired with a Formula E team and undergo a six-week training camp involving simulator sessions, engineer briefings and intense physical conditioning, before getting behind the wheel. He will then take part in a two-day event on March 5 and 6 at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium, where he will compete against the other celebrities. Formula E's current Gen3 Evo car can go from 0-60mph in just 1.82 seconds - a whole 30% faster than an F1 car.
Aguero, who scored 260 times for City, will have his journey documented and shared across his and Formula E's social media channels and then in a full documentary due later in 2025. Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds said: “The initial reaction when I presented the concept of ‘Evo Sessions’ to our teams and partners was ‘this is wild’, which is when I immediately knew we had to bring it to life. “We wanted to do something that has never been done before in motorsport; something that would give audiences and our fan base a unique perspective into the world of a Formula E driver, through the eyes of some of their favourite online personalities.
“Formula E is the fastest growing motorsport in the world, and we have a clear target to hit half a billion fans by 2030. Through collaborating with some of the biggest names in popular culture right now, we’re able to open up Formula E to a whole new fanbase. "I’ve been lucky enough to get behind the wheel of a Formula E racing car, but this event will be truly eye opening on what it takes to be an elite racing driver. It will uncover the world-class ability of the drivers and teams alike and highlight the raw skill and ingenuity we have in the championship.”.
