Manchester United transfer target Nuno Mendes is no longer looking for a move away from Paris Saint-Germain and is set to extend his stay at Parc des Princes, according to reports. The 22-year-old joined PSG in a £34 million deal from Sporting CP in May 2022 after impressing during a season-long loan with the French club.
Mendes came through Sporting’s academy and was handed his first-team debut by Ruben Amorim in June 2020. He then played a key role under Amorim the following season as Sporting went on to win the Primeira Liga and the Taca da Liga. That relationship with Amorim saw Mendes identified as one of United’s top targets to solve their issues on the left side of their defence and their hopes were boosted when the Portuguese international rejected a contract offer from PSG.
However, according to L’Équipe, Mendes has now ‘closed the door’ on a potential departure from PSG and is set to sign a new deal to extend his stay beyond 2026 when his current contract expires. The report adds that PSG boss Luis Enrique was instrumental in convincing Mendes to stay at the club, with the Spaniard viewing the full-back as key to his project.
United were also interested in a deal for PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani, but the Frenchman has now joined Juventus on loan until the end of the season. Red Devils’ have also been credited with a move for Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies whose contract is set to expire in the summer.
