Man Utd fans spot reasons VAR could have disallowed vital Tottenham goal

Eagle-eyed Manchester United fans have questioned whether Tottenham's decisive goal goal against them in the Carabao Cup quarter-final should have stood. The Red Devils were denied a spot in the final four by Spurs, who emerged victorious from a thoroughly entertaining match which ended 4-3 courtesy of Son Heung-min, who scored direct from a corner in the 88th minute.
Son's contribution helped spare Tottenham's blushes after they looked set to blow a three-goal lead, although Jonny Evans scored in the 93rd minute to set up a tense finale. But some fans have been left outraged after watching Son's goal back. Lucas Bergvall can be seen holding on to goalkeeper Altay Bayindir's hand during the corner which has convinced fans that the goal should have been ruled out. Unfortunately for United, VAR was not in use at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
That's because VAR isn't used in the Carabao Cup until the semi-finals, meaning Bergvall's apparent infringement on Bayindir was allowed to go unpunished on the night. VAR wasn't actually used until the final in last year's competition due to the fact that Middlesbrough, a Championship club, reached the final four and did not have the technology at their stadium.
While Bayindir could be seen remonstrating with the officials at full-time, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim didn't comment on the incident or the referee. He told Sky Sports: "We disconnected at the beginning of the second half, that was a tough moment. If you look at all of the game, we were the best team but they were more clinical. We lost but the fight from the lads was really important for me.
