Tottenham fans furious after ref's mistake before Arsenal goal - and VAR couldn't step in

Angry Tottenham fans have taken to social media after Arsenal scored from a contentious corner call in the north London derby. Spurs had to weather an early storm at The Emirates but took a shock lead through Son Heung-min, who volleyed home expertly from the edge of the box.
Their lead was short-lived, though, with Gabriel's header going in off Dominic Solanke. But the goal sparked a furious debate online after replays showed that a corner should never have been awarded. The ball appeared to flick the back of Leandro Trossard's knee after ricocheting between he and Pedro Porro. But the corner was given and Gabriel did the rest, with Trossard then grabbing Arsenal's winning goal just minutes later.
One Spurs fan said: "I really don’t want to moan, but with all the technology we have in the game these days, how is that still given as a corner?". "That was quite clearly not a corner," a second said. Another posted: "VAR is a total waste of time, can't tell the referee that he made a clear and obvious mistake in awarding a corner.".
"Is there a reason why a clear goal kick can be given as a corner ? And then VAR can’t do anything about it. Massive momentum change that ruins it for spurs," a fourth asked. Join the debate! Do you think the first Arsenal goal should have stood? Let us know here.
The Tottenham players were seen remonstrating with the referee as they left the pitch following the drama, which occurred towards the end of the first half. Despite the error, VAR was unable to intervene as the technology is only able to analyse the attacking possession phase that led to the goal. In this case, the starting point would be the corner, rather than the actual decision to award a set-piece.
