Time is ticking on transfer deadline day if Ruben Amorim wants to make any further additions to his Manchester United squad - but it looks increasingly like there will be no major arrivals before the summer. After falling to a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday, United suffered more misery as they were knocked back in their bid to land Mathys Tel. Bayern Munich were unimpressed with the Red Devils loan offer despite the winger seemingly being agreeable to a move and Tottenham now look to have swooped in.

Hours after the Palace game, one of the month's long-running transfer sagas came to an end however. Marcus Rashford hadn't played for the club since mid-December, but he has finally completed a loan move to Aston Villa. With Rashford and Antony both leaving on loan, attacking reinforcements are the order of the day. In addition to Tel, United have been linked with a move for Villa star Leon Bailey, but that also looks like it won't happen which will leave us questioning the team's firepower for the remainder of the season.

United have completed some business, at least, with Ayden Heaven joining from Arsenal and Patrick Dorgu completing his move from Lecce. Scroll down for all the latest from Mirror Football as Manchester United chase at least one more deadline day deal. The last game of the season. United may well have seen their season come to a natural end by the time they host Villa. Villa though could well be in a European hunt of some kind, potentially for the Champions League.

Rashford's loan move means he'll be a spectator, unless there are some exceptional circumstance and Villa can persuade United to let him play. But usually loan players don't play against their parent club. It will be interesting though so see just how the landscape has changed for Rashford, his new club and his boyhood club in four months time. Sunday was another difficult day for the new man in the dugout.

He knew coming in he would have a bucket load of funds to work with, but perhaps he anticipated more of a new manager bounce. There's no doubt that the new system has endured massive teething problems. Amorim will be hoping for short-term pain and long-term gain with Patrick Dorgu potentially showing there is light at the end of the tunnel. He told VillaTV: “It’s an ambitious time for this club and a great opportunity for me to join the team and help them keep pushing forward. I’m excited, can’t wait for the first training session and obviously the first game. (Unai Emery is) a top manager and what he’s done at the club since he’s come to Villa is unbelievable.

“It’s the constant ambition that’s attractive, and it’s why you want to join such a club. You want to keep improving year on year, and that’s what the team has been doing and are doing this year.". Rashford also went on to say: “It’s a club that’s in a good position in the league, and they’re pushing to get higher. Still in the Champions League, a good, ambitious manager and great talent in the squad.

“I’ve had to choose somewhere where I feel my style of football is suited to, and can help them and help me rediscover and improve as a player.". As a kid Rashford was determined to make it as a footballer. And equally determined to don the red of Manchester. Here's what he said about his future, having now signed for Aston Villa. It read: "I hope that my future is very bright in and out of school, especially in my career as a footballer. I want to have a different lifestyle and make my family and others proud of me.".

A second paragraph was written in block capitals and said: "I only have one aim in life and that is to be a professional footballer, and hopefully at Manchester United.". No deals are currently bubbling away and MEN sources have stressed that United have no intention of recruiting any short-term or stop-gap players, which could later compromise the club's budget in the summer.

It all points to a we'll stick with what we've got approach. Sunday's result won't have helped the mood should no one new arrive, but the club are already looking beyond this season. Questions may have to be asked if, as expected, Tel does make the move to Tottenham having originally said no to them. It was reported that he was waiting to see whether Man Utd or Arsenal acted before making a decision. Not exactly a come and get me plea but still a clear admission that he was keen to join one of the so called bigger clubs.

Man Utd might not be having a great year, but Tottenham hardly scream a team on the up. Postecoglou got on the phone and looks to have changed Tel's mind. It begs the question, just how hard did the Red Devils push for Tel? If he starts carving up in the capital it could be another missed opportunity. It's a no go for Manchester United and Mathys Tel - he's heading to Spurs for a medical. The Bayern Munich man has agreed to join them on a straight loan just days after snubbing a permanent move.
