Manchester United’s attempt to sign Patrick Dorgu could be blocked due to a rival offer from Napoli, according to reports in Italy. United have identified Dorgu as a new left-sided option for Ruben Amorim, who has been forced to play Diogo Dalot at left wing-back following Luke Shaw’s injury.

Dorgu, 20, is in his second season with Lecce following his €200,000 (£175,000) move from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland in 2022. The Denmark international international, who has also been linked with Liverpool, has quickly established himself as a regular at Lecce and has shown his versatility by playing on both flanks.

United have already opened talks with Lecce over a deal for Dorgu and Sky Sports Italy report that a delegation from the Premier League side has travelled to Italy on Tuesday in order to hold face-to-face negotiations this week. However, the report claims that Napoli are close to reaching their own agreement for Dorgu which would see the 20-year-old remain on loan at Lecce until the end of the season.

United, however, would be able to beat Napoli to a deal if they met Lecce’s €40 million (£33.8m) asking price. Napoli, meanwhile, are also in advanced negotiations with United to sign Alejandro Garnacho in the January transfer window. The Serie A leaders had their opening offer rejected by United last week as the Premier League club hold out for a figure closer to £70m.
