THE first pub is thought to have opened in the UK around 2,000 years ago - and it's safe to say they have become an important part of culture since. Today, there are over 30,000 boozers across Britain, but which ones come out on top?. The Top 50 Gastropubs have been revealed as part of an awards ceremony sponsored by beer maker Estrella Damm.

These types of pubs specialise in selling high quality food as well as drinks. Coming in at number one is the Unruly Pig in Suffolk, which has retained its title as the best gastropub in the UK for the second year in a row. The pub has been praised for changing its menus on a monthly basis and sourcing fresh produce from local suppliers.

Visitors can expect to be served a fusion of British and Italian-style cuisine. Up next is The Devonshire in London’s Soho, which was awarded for its amazing Guinness and homemade food. The pub opened just two years ago on the grounds of a former chicken and burger restaurant, but has quickly become a hit.

The central haunt has become a hot spot for celebrities, with footballer Peter Crouch paying a visit to try its Guinness 0.0 on draught. Coming in at third was the Star Inn at Harome, North Yorkshire. Judges praised this venue for its "dedication to fine produce and playful but refined cooking".

The Star Inn already has a Michelin star and has held a place on the Top 50 list since its opening over a decade ago. Behind them was the Parkers Arms in Clitheroe, Lancashire. This venue previously came in at number one back in 2024 and retained a spot on the list for several years.
