New Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has DROPPED Marcus Rashford from his squad to face bitter rivals Man City. Rashford, 27, has cut a frustrated figure for much of the season, with three goals under Amorim failing to spark his campaign into life. The forward was subbed off just 56 minutes into Thursday's Europa League clash with Czech side Viktoria Plzen, with United 1-0 down.

His replacement, Rasmus Hojlund, scored twice as the Red Devils snatched a late win. Rashford has now been omitted altogether against City, not even making the bench at the Etihad. Amid his struggles, Rashford has been linked with a move away from his boyhood club ahead of the January transfer window. The 27-year-old signed a new long-term contract in 2023 which keeps him at Old Trafford for another three-and-a-half years.

Amorim told Sky Sports of his decision: "We try to evaluate everything training performance, game performances, engagement with teammates, push their teammates up. Everything is on the line when we analyse and try to choose the players. It is my selection. Simple.

"I don't want to send a message it is simply an evaluation and they know it. The players are really, really smart. Everybody understands my decision and I have to choose. It is simple selection. Of course, the context is difficult because we have to win games and we have a difficult situation now.

"I pay attention to everything, the way you eat, the way you put your clothes to go to a game. Everything. I make my evaluation and then I decide. There is a communication after the last training. They are alright. They had training this morning and I was there. They trained really well.".
