Italian giants AC Milan are set to reject Manchester United's demands for Marcus Rashford as the two clubs attempt to thrash out a loan agreement. Rashford, 27, wants to leave United in the January transfer window, having revealed last month that he's ready for 'a new challenge'. The forward hasn't played for the Red Devils since December 14, six games ago.

New manager Ruben Amorim has taken ownership of the situation, insisting that Rashford has been left out of multiple matchday squads for purely 'selection' reasons. The player's camp are now engineering a move away, likely to be a loan deal which includes an obligation to buy in the summer.

Rashford's camp have been in Italy this week to hold talks with Milan, who are interested alongside fellow Serie A side Como and German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund. The 27-year-old also has interest from Saudi Arabia but wants to remain in one of Europes's top-five leagues in order to fight his way back into the England squad.

However, his potential move to the San Siro has stalled over the percentage of wages United are demanding be paid. The Times report that Milan are expected to refuse to pay more than half of Rashford's £325,000-a-week salary, with their highest earner, Alvaro Morata, only being paid £150,000 per week.

Rashford would prefer a move to La Liga giants Barcelona, although their financial situation means that a move is unlikely. That's forced the United academy graduate to look elsewhere for a club where he can recapture the excellent form which prompted the Red Devils to hand him a lucrative contract in 2023.
