Summary at a Glance

Chief Inspector John Hine, from the Royal Parks unit, told the Standard: “We have been working hard to curb bike thefts in and around Regents Park including patrolling hotspot locations.

Cyclists are calling on police to patrol Regent’s Park earlier in the day after a spate of violent robberies left them feeling like “sitting ducks”.

“In particular since January, we have stood up additional plain clothes and uniform officers, especially at night and before the park officially opens in the early hours of the morning.

More than 30 clubs meeting in Regent’s Park before it opens to cars in the morning have asked for greater police protection.

A female member of a cycling club asked the Regent’s Park Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team whether a car could patrol the area between 5.30am and 7am.
