THE flamboyant frontman of a much-loved British rock band looks unrecognisable in their new music video. No stranger to disguising himself on stage, the guitar-wielding singer took part in The Masked Singer in 2021 when he was unveiled as Chameleon. He's now upped the ante with some impressive prosthetics for the I Hate Myself video, which has left some fans feeling "unsettled".
The new look features some incredibly chiselled facial features with cheek bones and a jawline that could cut glass. Then there's the piercing blue eyes and jet black wavy locks that would be right at home in the hair metal pomp of the 80s. The music star shared a picture on Instagram and wrote: "If you wish to regard the full beguiling majesty of these piercing blue eyes, go and watch the video for ‘I Hate Myself’.".
It prompted one to reply: "Anyone else traumatised?". A second said: "Every time this face shows up on my feed…. I’m unsettled.". It is of course Lowestoft's finest, Justin Hawkins of The Darkness. The fast-paced track sees Justin's character lament the loss of a partner after seven years together.
Revealing it was the result of his own "cruel" actions, the heartbroken man sings in the chorus: "Oh, I hate myself, I hate myself, I do. Oh, I hate myself, so you don't have to.". The Darkness have been consistent with their album releases since taking a seven year break between recordings following sophomore album, One Way Ticket to Hell… and Back.
