Max Verstappen's camp has issued a cryptic response to the claim he could soon receive a huge £1billion contract offer from Aston Martin. It was claimed on Thursday that the team's owner Lawrence Stroll has approved what would be the most lucrative offer in Formula 1 history by far. The Daily Mail report also asserted Aston's commercial chief Jefferson Slack has been telling potential sponsors that the four-time champion will surely sign in the future.

Stroll's desire to sign the Dutchman to race cars designed by Adrian Newey is well known in F1 circles. However, Aston Martin were very swift to shut down those claims when approached by Mirror Sport and a spokesperson for the team "categorically" denied they were true.

Their response left no room at all for interpretation as to their stance on the matter, at least in public. In contrast, however, Verstappen's camp failed to rule out the idea of such a move happening. "That's nice," was the simple two-word response when approached for comment on the claims. Verstappen has a contract with Red Bull until the end of 2028 with a base salary of around £50m per year which makes him, after performance bonuses, the sport's highest-paid driver.

He will be 31 by the time he reaches the end of that deal, an age at which many drivers are in the prime of their career. But Verstappen has made it clear on many occasions that he plans to retire young and has even hinted that this contract could be his last in F1.

And the 27-year-old has also said that, for now, he is happy where he is. Toto Wolff tried to tempt Verstappen to join his Mercedes team at the height of Red Bull's internal conflict last season, but at no point did the Dutchman ever truly consider switching teams for 2025.
