Michael Schumacher is set to become a grandfather. The Formula 1 legend's daughter Gina-Marie has announced in a social media post that she and husband Iain Bethke are expecting their first child. It comes after their glamorous wedding at the Schumacher family's Majorcan villa earlier this year.
On Instagram, the equestrian star posted a photo of some balloons in a field with 'new baby' written on them, next to a young horse foal. In the caption, she wrote: "Impatiently awaiting the arrival of our little girl.". It is the latest piece of good news the Schumacher family has received this year after Gina-Marie and husband Bethke's nuptials. They tied the knot in June at a glamorous ceremony to which many family members and friends usually not allowed within the inner circle were invited.
Schumacher's wife Corinna has been fiercely protective of her husband's privacy ever since the skiing accident in December 2013 which left him with life-changing injuries. Only a small circle of trusted allies have been allowed to see him or to know delicate details of his condition.
Not that there haven't been attempts from bad actors to expose those details. Earlier this month, the trial of three men accused of a plot to blackmail the Schumacher family began in Germany. One of those men is Markus Fritsche, 53, who worked as a bodyguard to the stricken seven-time F1 champion for many years. Fritsche is said to have had access to details of his condition and treatment and, after he was let go, allegedly tried to use that knowledge against the family.
