As the 11th anniversary of Michael Schumacher's life-changing skiing accident approaches, Christmas is no doubt a difficult time of year for the Formula 1 legend's family. Schumacher suffered a severe injury to his brain when his head hit a rock after he fell while skiing off-piste in the French Alps on December 29, 2013. To this day, he continues to require round-the-clock care from close family members and a team of medical professionals.
Details of his condition are known only to a few trusted allies as Schumacher's wife Corinna has been fiercely protective of her husband's privacy. But some family members have been more open in sharing glimpses into their own lives on their respective social media channels.
And they regularly show themselves celebrating Christmas, whether at the family home on the shores of Lake Geneva, their luxury Majorcan villa or their ranch in Texas. Such snaps are most regularly shared by Michael's daughter Gina-Maria, an equestrian star who competes internationally representing Germany.
She has posted photos of her mother posing with a family dog in front of a Christmas tree, as well of snaps of herself with husband Iain Bethke. This year, Gina and Bethke will celebrate the festive season as husband and wife for the first time after they tied the knot earlier this year.
And, earlier this week, she announced that the Schumacher family has another reason to be in celebratory mood with confirmation that they are expecting their first child. Their "little girl" is due to arrive in April 2025, with Michael and Corinna set to become grandparents for the first time.
