Ruthless Alan Smith reckons Arsenal should get rid of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to finance a raid for Newcastle star Alexander Isak. The Gunners legend is adamant a top striker has to be Mikel Arteta’s main transfer priority as they continue to struggle turning chances into goals.

Red-hot Isak is the player in demand but he will come at a hefty price with the Magpies understood to be wanting around £150m for the prolific Sweden ace. They are second in the Premier League but are already six points behind Liverpool who also have a game in hand. Arsenal have scored 10 fewer goals than the leaders so far.

Smith doesn’t reckon any deal would be done before the end of the January transfer window. In an interview with AceOdds.com, he said: “Wouldn't it be lovely if you could get a proven goalscorer into the club in January?. “But (A) It would cost a lot of money and (B) it would be very difficult indeed to get somebody this month.

"Isak would probably be my first choice. He's been linked heavily with Arsenal for the last year. I would imagine if he is going to leave Newcastle, it would probably be in the summer. I can't see it happening in January, if indeed it happens at all.".

But Smith says Arsenal can raise funds by offloading those two ex-Man City stars. Striker Jesus is currently sidelined by injury and netted just seven goals in 27 appearances this term while left-back Zinchenko has only played eight league games all campaign.
