Miss Austen's Mr Henry Hobday explored and if he really existed Miss Austen has been enthralling viewers since it premiered recently and sees Gill Hornby’s 2020 book of the same name get the small screen treatment.
The show also features a mixture of real and fictional characters with many viewers keen to know if the romantic interest Mr Henry Hobday (Max Irons) was a real person.
The novel melds together fact and fiction as it tries to answer the age-old mystery of why Cassandra Austen’s (played by Keeley Hawes) destroyed nearly all of her younger sister Jane Austen’s (Patsy Ferran) personal correspondence.
Mr Hobday has parallels to Mr Darcy with his sense of duty to his family, along with hailing from Derbyshire, leading some to question the inspiration behind the famous Pride and Prejudice hero.
Although these characters may be fictional, viewers can learn more about the life and work of the famous writer from The Jane Austen Society, which will be hosting numerous events this year to mark her 250th birthday.
