Keeley Hawes is set to star in the BBC's upcoming drama, Miss Austen, based on Gill Hornby’s historical novel. The four-part series, set in 1830, follows Jane Austen's sister Cassandra Austen, played by Hawes, as she assists her niece Isabella Fowle (Rose Leslie) in settling her father’s estate after his death.
However, Cassandra has a hidden agenda and seeks out her sister’s private letters. Viewers may be interested in learning more about Hawes' life both on and off the screen. The 48 year old actress began her career in the 1980s and gained prominence with roles in Tipping the Velvet and Spooks in the early 2000s. Since then, she has starred in Ashes to Ashes and Line of Duty, earning further acclaim.
Her recent roles include The Durrells, It’s A Sin, and Honour, and she reunited with Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio in 2018 for Bodyguard. She also appeared in Sky’s sci-fi drama The Midwich Cuckoos alongside her Miss Austen co-star Synnøve Karlsen, who plays the young Cassandra in the BBC period piece.
Last year, Hawes led an all-female cast in the Netflix film Scoop, starring alongside Gillian Anderson and Billie Piper. She's been in the running for several BAFTA TV Awards throughout her illustrious career. IMDb reveals that Hawes is set to grace our screens next in the TV series The Assassin.
