Mocha Mousse: How to decorate with the Pantone Colour of the Year

As 2024 comes to a close, we start looking at the trend predictions for the year to come. In the world of interiors, one of the most influential (and eagerly anticipated) announcements is the Pantone Colour of the Year, as it will hugely impact the way we decorate and design our homes over the next 12 months.
For 2025, the Pantone Color Institute has selected ‘Mocha Mousse’. It’s described by the company as ‘a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth extends further into our desire for comfort,’ although we’d probably say it’s a mid brown shade that veers close to taupe.
Mocha Mousse is the Pantone Colour of the Year 2025. The versatile colour is a switch-up from its bolder forerunners, indicating that earth tones are set to dominate our interiors in 2025. Not that we’re surprised – deep shades of brown emerged as the breakout fashion trend of AW24, and the colour is now considered a neutral, pairing well with the season’s moody colour palette of beiges, blacks and greys.
As with any trend, less is often more – and when it comes to incorporating the Pantone Colour of the Year into our homes, a small dose will do to make a statement. According to YOU’s acting interiors editor Victoria Gray, the key to a success scheme featuring Mocha Mousse involves offsetting the colour against a palette of paler, warm neutrals.
‘If you’re going to paint your walls in a similar colour, like Farrow & Ball’s Roasted Macadamia, then it’s important to layer natural, tactile textures such as thickly woven wool rugs, chunky knit throws and rattan furniture,’ she explains. ‘The enveloping rich brown could feel overbearing if used in isolation.’.
