Myles Lewis-Skelly faces familiar opinion as Arsenal star told to "wind his neck in"

Graeme Souness has joined the list of people suggesting Myles Lewis-Skelly should be more humble as the Liverpool legend told him "wind your neck in". The Arsenal teenager has enjoyed a rapid rise and has become a regular part of the starting picture, but divided opinion with his celebrating last weekend. Lewis-Skelly scored in the team's 5-1 demolition of Manchester City before mimicking Erling Haaland's celebration.
His decision to mock the Norwegian, who has won numerous honours and broken a host of records, divided opinion with several pundits suggesting his confidence went over the top. Jamie Carragher was among those to claim he went too far. Souness has joined them and whilst he confesses the Gunners star looks poised to be a star he's also told Lewis-Skelly to land some honours on his CV before he starts going after players like Haaland, who was public enemy No.1 at the Emirates.
He told the Daily Mail: "I have to say, having seen that celebration, I think he needs to wind his neck in. At 18, it’s a bit early to be going down the road of mimicking a player like Haaland, someone who’s achieved great things in our league. "Wait till you’ve won a few things in our game, son. Just give it a few years. Listen and learn every day until then. Know that someone so young going down that road is not a good look. I really like Myles Lewis-Skelly but he needs to wait until he's won a few things first. I like to see players assert themselves but in this case he needs to wind his neck in.".
Carragher felt that the Arsenal youngster "got a little carried away". Jamie O'Hara told Grosvenor Sport : “Don’t get me wrong, I like the banter and the back and forth – but not from Myles Lewis-Skelly! He’s a hugely talented young player, but he hasn’t scored 250 goals or won a trophy yet.". Arsenal's high quickly went to a low on Wednesday night as Lewis-Skelly and co failed to breach the Newcastle goal as their Carabao Cup hopes ended. The Gunners were beaten 2-0 in both legs and their issues in the final thirds were highlighted once again.
Souness said: "It is the fundamental difference between them and Liverpool. My old club have better goalscorers, which means they don’t have to play well to win games and are less reliant on set-pieces. But without those strikers, Arsenal have to play well to win games.".
