‘Mystery’ after shop sold formula nine years out of date which made newborn sick A five-week-old baby was taken to hospital after being fed formula which was almost nine years out of date.
The parents bought 13 bottles of Aptamil baby milk at a branch of Dunnes Stores in Navan, a town in the Republic of Ireland, on February 8 of last year.
Another bottle they bought at the same time had a best before date of February 3 of last year, meaning it was five days out of date.
A doctor contacted the Navan branch of Dunnes Stores to make them aware of the incident, and on February 14 a senior environmental health officer spoke to the shop’s deputy store manager.
The next day, Dunnes Stores head office was notified and an official investigation was launched by the HSE and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), the Irish Independent reports.
