Netflix has been accused of 'monetizing' Gabby Petito's murder after teasing a new documentary about her death. American Murder: Gabby Petito will land on the streaming service on February 17 and explores the events leading up to her murder at the hands of fiancé Brian Laundrie in August 2021.
An official teaser trailer for the three-part documentary series was posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday alongside a caption which read: 'In 2021, Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie went on a four-month road trip across the United States documenting their van life on social media. Only one of them returned.'.
The clip begins with footage recorded by the couple as they sat in the back of their Ford Transit Connect and welcomed viewers to their new vlog. A female voiceover states: 'Gabby and Brian seemed like a loving couple, but behind the scenes they would get into arguments.
'Brian thought the vlog was stupid. The happiest people on social media usually have the darkest skeletons in their closet,' the woman adds. The trailer then cuts to a 911 call from a man who wanted to 'report a domestic dispute' after witnessing a man 'slapping' a girl.
Bodycam footage shows Gabby sitting in the back of a police car crying, as well as CCTV of Brian and Gabby walking across a parking lot.
