Netflix has just dropped a "gripping" new crime drama and it looks set to cause a buzz among TV fans. Titled The Åre Murders, this fresh Swedish crime series draws its chilling narrative from two novels - Hidden in Snow and Hidden in the Shadows - penned by celebrated Swedish novelist Viveca Sten. These page-turners have conquered the global market, gracing shelves in over 40 nations and racking up a staggering 10 million sales.

Readers have been lauding the books for their "gripping" storytelling and have dubbed them an "enjoyable mystery thriller" with online reviews noting that they "keeps you in suspense to the end". Zooming in on the world of Hanna Ahlander, a police officer who faces professional suspension and a crumbling personal relationship, The Åre Murders sees her fleeing Stockholm's chaos for her sister's holiday retreat in Are. It's there that the real intrigue kicks off.

Netflix teases viewers with a synopsis that reads: "When a young woman goes missing on the icy night of Lucia, Hanna can't help but start investigating the case. With a tough family situation and an understaffed police station, local police officer Daniel Lindskog reluctantly has to accept Hanna's help. But the big question is whether they can trust each other.". Starring a skilled ensemble including Carla Sehn, Kardo Razzazi, Charlie Gustafsson, Francisco Sobrado and Amalia Holm, the series promises a riveting watch.

As it only premiered on Netflix on 6 February, only time will tell if The Åre Murders will scale the heights of Netflix's most-watched charts - but it's got all the makings of a hit, reports Surrey Live. Commenting on the series, author Viveca stated: "The Are Murders means a lot to me and I'm very excited that it's now time for the TV series to see the light of day on a leading streaming service like Netflix! Both as the author of the books and executive producer of the series, it's hugely exciting to see the characters come to life through such talented actors.
