A man was sitting on the loo when he landed a royal flush - news he'd won a £4million home once owned by the inventor of the flushing toilet. Paul Knight was on a bathroom break when he learned of his windfall, scooping the six-bedroom dream home with regal connections. The home, aptly located in Bath, dates back to the 1500s and was part of the estate of Sir John Harington, who was godson of Elizabeth I and inventor of the first ever flushing toilet.

Bar manager Paul, 47, said the new home was like something "from Saltburn", but that, unlike the film, he and his partner wouldn't be "running around naked" anytime soon. Paul, who runs a bar in Reading, was taking a break at work and scrolling on his phone, reading news about a lost lottery ticket when he learned he'd won the prize draw through Omaze's Million Pound House Draw, along with £250,000 cash.

He now has to decide whether to move into the regal home with partner Justin, rent out or sell up to cash in his millions. Paul said: “When I got a message from Omaze, I was actually sitting on the toilet at work reading about a lost lottery ticket thinking that it would be just my luck - but how wrong was I?”. He nipped out from work for an hour to discover what he'd won. Paul added: “I knew something was up when I saw all the cameras - I thought they’re not rolling this out for a £10 gift voucher, are they? When they revealed I’d won a £4m country house, I was just utterly gobsmacked”.

Paul broke the news to partner Justin, 36, after he returned home late from his job as a flight attendant straight off a jet from New York. “He couldn’t comprehend it and said it must be the jet lag kicking in and he’s hallucinating!”. On his new house he said: “The house is absolutely stunning. We’ve been joking it’s like something out of Saltburn, although we won’t be running around naked anytime soon. The garage is bigger than our current house! We’ve never seen anything so grand, we love period properties, there is so much character and history here, we feel like royalty!”.

For Paul and Justin, the win brings them closer to their dream of adopting and starting their own family, which was previously put on hold due to work commitments and finances. Paul joked they may even need a butler should they grow their family. The likelihood for the couple however is keeping the home and renting it out to give them extra income. Paul bagged the house through a £20 Omaze subscription, adding the Bath home had been his "favourite yet".

The stunning Grade II-listed home still retains original features from the 1700s, including panelled walls and even graffiti dating from 1636. With its secret bar hidden behind a sliding bookshelf, the historic home is the stuff of dreams. As well as making Paul a multimillionaire, the Omaze Million Pound House Draw, Bath raised £4.6 million for British Heart Foundation, backed by noughties hitmakers S Club after tragically losing bandmate Paul Cattermole to an undiagnosed heart condition last year.
