Feeling rough after Christmas? One food might be able to perk you back up in no time. We've all woken up one morning filled with regret and a pounding headache - as we try desperately to remember the entire night in case we said (or did) something embarrassing. Splitting head pain, sickness, dizziness and dehydration are all common side effects of a hangover, and can often ruin our well-intentioned Sunday plans.

Of course, preventing these symptoms by drinking plenty of water the night before, not drinking too much alcohol, and refraining from taking shots of spirits, is key to waking up without feeling like death warmed up. But if it's too late for the lecture, you might want to reach for one specific natural cure.

Bananas have long been touted as the ultimate hangover remedy due to their high potassium and sugar content, which can help provide a burst of energy and replenish some of those missing minerals. However, some experts claim eggs are an even better go-to, as they won't make you 'crash' later on in the day.

In an article reviewed by Dr. Vivek Cherian, a medicine physician, Real Simple states: "Nutrient-rich eggs contain the amino acid cysteine, which can help clear the liver of harmful free radicals." This is backed by experts over at Healthline, who explain that cysteine is used to produce the antioxidant glutathione.

"Drinking alcohol decreases the body's stores of glutathione," the pros added. "Without it, your body has difficulty breaking down the toxic byproducts of alcohol metabolism. Eating cysteine-rich eggs is a great way to increase glutathione in your body and possibly improve hangover symptoms.".
